Donald Trump! Chess move from God?

A few months ago, I was having a conservation about the presidential election with someone I consider my brother. I asked him who he thought was going to win. He did not state who he thought was going to win but did make an interesting statement. He said, “I like Donald Trump for us because I believe he will bring us closer to God.” I’ll be honest and say that I did not follow the election closely, but I thought this a rather interesting statement especially coming from someone who does not attend church. How could this person possibly bring an entire nation back to God? I’m not sure if he believes in God himself!

            Fast forward to today, Trump is in office and making drastic moves with ICE, tariffs, budget cuts, and all the other things he’s done in his very short time in office. I’ve watched many comments online referencing his evil tactics, people attacking each other, people blaming the Christian voters who voted for trump, and even making bold statements how God would not allow this! As much as I would like to agree with this statement, I simply cannot. As I was meditating on what’s going on, the conversation with my brother came back to me!  At the same time, I was in the home stretch of the Daniel Fast, which is something that many Christians participate in during the first part of the year.

            This was my first year having a desire to do the Daniel Fast. I’ve said it before, anytime God places something in my heart, I do my research to get an understanding of what God is trying to say. When I read about the 21-day fast that Daniel completed. I learned that Daniel was fasting to get answers from God. He received a visual warning that destruction was on its way. This vision caused Daniel to plead with God for his people and seek understanding of the vision given to him. His answer came three weeks later. I would like to say that the Angel of the Lord, gave Daniel all comforting words but then I would be lying. He confirmed that rulers were coming that would bring destruction in their land for many years BUT in the end God’s people will prevail. Please refer to Daniel chapters 7-11 for more on the story. He received multiple visions and several responses from angels on different occasions. One particular instance is noteworthy, and I would like to share it with you.

“At the end of their rule, when their sin is at its height, a fierce king, a master of intrigue, will rise to power. He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause a shocking amount of destruction and succeed in everything he does. He will destroy powerful leaders and devastate the holy people. He will be a master of deception and will become arrogant; he will destroy many without warning. He will even take on the Prince of princes in battle, but he will be broken, though NOT by human power.” – Daniel 8 v23-25. NLT

Whew or shall I say WOE! I am uncertain as to why these specific verses captured my attention; however, I distinctly felt the spirit of the Lord say, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven forgive their sin and heal their land.” I am a firm believer that nothing happens by coincidence and warning comes before destruction. Over the past year, I’ve really been intentional with reading God’s word and what I have noticed is there isn’t anything new under the sun. Everything that is happening or has happened is noted in the bible.

With that being said, I believe my brother’s statement just might hold some truth. What if God allowed Donald Trump to take office in attempt to draw his people closer to him. I’m not sure about you but in 2024, I felt like God was restoring his people back to him. He was pouring out his love and establishing his identity to those who dared to listen and seek. 2025 will be a fight for the promises, but we need to seek God for ourselves. Fast with intention, be like Daniel! Ask God, what is going to happen next and how do I prepare or move? Pray! Donald Trump is the President of the U.S., but God is the King of the earth. He knows and can change the heart of a mere man. Most importantly, read the word! God speaks but it is always in alignment with his word.

Lastly, be encouraged. I believe God’s word and his word says: “Through a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.” -Psalms 91: 7
